F
ollowing another successful Associates Campaign,
which wrapped up at the end of October, the Atlanta
Council of Younger Lawyers closed out 2014 with several events, including our monthly happy hours, BEER and
CLE Series and Mentoring Breakfasts.
School Outreach Committee’s Law Student Mock Interview/
Resume Review Workshop, the Saturday Lawyer Program
with AVLF, which is tentatively scheduled to occur in January
or February 2015, and LawJam 2015, which is scheduled to
take place in June 2015 at Variety Playhouse.
On October 23rd, the ACYL held its monthly happy hour at
Gordon Biersch in Midtown followed by a comedy show at
Laughing Skull Lounge. After taking a break for the holidays,
our next happy hour will be January 22nd. We have some
exciting venues lined up for our happy hours in 2015.
For those who would like to find out more information about the
ACYL schedule of events, our Facebook page provides event
updates and also serves as a forum for questions, suggestions
and networking. We can also be contacted through the Atlanta
Bar Association website, and if you have any questions, I
am happy to answer them by email at [email protected]. If you
would like our group to get involved in any particular program
or event, we welcome and encourage opportunities to team
up with other groups and we appreciate any suggestions
regarding events and event content!
Our three part “Life of a Trial” seminar in our BEER and CLE
Series concluded at the end of November. Seminar 2 took
place on October 22, 2014 and covered the topic “Effective
Witness Examinations.” We had great attendance and
received terrific feedback from the attendees. The finale of
the three part series covered “Closing Arguments” and was
also very well attended. We are looking forward to continuing
our BEER and CLE Series in the spring with respect to topics
involving transactional law. We are also introducing a new
series titled “Life of a Lawyer.” The ACYL is proud to offer a
full year of CLE credit through the BEER and CLE Series.
Our mentoring breakfasts remain strong. We are recently
wrapping up a breakfast series on financial literacy issues.
In November, we learned about “Save Now, Spend Later:
The Strategy for Retirement” and in December we covered
“Annual Reviews and Salary Negotiations.” In January, we
get back to the basics discussing “New Year’s Resolution
– Becoming More Efficient.” Please join us for one of the
upcoming Mentoring Breakfasts this spring. The goal of the
Mentoring Breakfasts is to deliver to new lawyers valuable
“real world” information that is not typically covered in law
school curriculum.
In the next calendar year, in addition to leading our own
volunteer efforts, we will continue to support the volunteer
work of other Sections of the Atlanta Bar, including, the Law
