Atlanta Bar in the Profession In Memoriam Randolph W. Thrower (Sept. 5, 1913-Mar. 8, 2014) Randolph W. Thrower was President of the Atlanta Bar Association from 1958 to 1959. He graduated from Emory Law School and practiced mainly in the area of federal taxation. He also served as President of the American Bar Foundation and as U.S. Commissioner of Internal Revenue from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates and was a trustee of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law for three decades. Randolph’s integrity, courage and leadership has been widely recognized and applauded. C. David Butler (Dec. 18, 1943-April 11, 2014) C. David Butler was President of the Atlanta Bar Association from 1981 to 1982. He attended the University of Georgia, where he obtained a B.A. and a law degree. He began his legal career at Redfern, Butler and Morgan, where he was a founding partner. From 1985 until 1997, he was a partner at Alston and Bird. He was awarded the David W. Pollard Achievement Award by the Atlanta Bar Association, Bankruptcy Law Section in 2004 and the Charles E. Watkins, Jr. Award for Distinguished and Sustained Service by the Atlanta Bar Association in 2007. David was a leader and mentor in his community and among family and friends.
