Community Partner Spotlight
ServiceJuris is Hands On in the Community
N
ow in its fifteenth year, ServiceJuris has brought
together more than 5,000 members of Atlanta’s legal
community giving over 20,000 hours of service to
help improve learning environments for schools, renovate
neighborhood parks and enrich the lives of thousands
across metro Atlanta through a day of service that includes
legal workshops, carpentry work, painting and landscape
beautification.
Legal professionals from around Atlanta are welcome to join
the organization’s “steering committee” of over 30 members
who meet to plan and vote on potential sites, projects and
other coordinating aspects. These members also serve on
subcommittees that work on the details of the various projects,
annual fundraising and coordination of the “morning of”
events. There is also a need of vendors for in-kind donations
on the day of service, including food, drink, t-shirts and other
essentials.
short-term goal is to move 800 people into stable housing by
December 2013. Over the long term, Unsheltered No More
seeks to catalyze a new level of coordination among all of the
public, private, nonprofit, and faith-based organizations that
serve the homeless—and to set Atlanta on a path to ending
chronic and veteran homelessness by 2015.
Thank you to the law firms and legal services vendors that
sponsored this year’s event, and to the volunteers who
dedicated their time and talents. During this year’s event,
your service touched the lives of 1,000 homeless children
and adults at eight local shelters.
I truly appreciate all that ServiceJuris has done for our
great city throughout the years. I congratulate you on the
accomplishments of this 14th annual ServiceJuris Day and
encourage your continued partnership in the effort to end
homelessness in Atlanta.”
Co-Chair Amy Kelly has been with the organization since 2007
and shared, “The goal this year is to broaden our volunteer
base to include more members of the judiciary and legal
professionals from small and mid-size law firms and in-house
legal departments. ServiceJuris is extraordinarily proud to
have received a letter from Mayor Kasim Reed about its 2013
event”, excerpted here:
