PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE

What did you do this Summer?

Nicole G. Iannarone Georgia State University School of Law
In my day job teaching at Georgia State University College of Law, there is a rhythm to our work. Every fall, we anticipate the start of the school year and getting to reconnect with the students we have missed seeing over the summer months. As we return to our routines, one question inevitably comes up in nearly every conversation:“ What did you do this summer?” With summer now officially over, we are back in full swing at the Atlanta Bar Association. What did the Atlanta Bar Association do this summer? Here are some of our highlights:
The Atlanta Bar’ s Summer Law Internship Program( SLIP) celebrated its 26 th year this summer. Under the tireless leadership and service of Nekia Hackworth Jones, S. Wade Malone, and V. Natasha Perdew Silas, 49 students from 36 schools in the metro Atlanta area spent their summers working with legal services organizations, judges, in-house counsel offices, and law firms, learning about the practice of law in Atlanta. When they begin preparing for law school, the Highest Heights Forever Initiative supports former interns by providing resources

The Atlanta Bar Association’ s mission is to support Atlanta Bar charitable projects that promote equal access to justice, assistance to youth and public understanding of the law. for LSAT preparation classes. The Initiative supports former interns as they prepare to enter our profession by helping with the cost of bar review classes. SLIP interns are an impressive and hardworking group, and I imagine that returning to school must feel like a bit of a vacation after all they did this summer.
