Atlanta Bar Engagement Creates Leadership and Volunteer Opportunities .

The Atlanta Bar provides programs and benefits that serve our diverse membership . In metro Atlanta there are over fifteen different voluntary Bar Associations and many additional community groups . Atlanta Bar Members are often active in those as well . To that end , the Bar creates synergies with other organizations , like The Gate City Bar Association and the Anti-Defamation League . In addition , the Bar engages in significant community outreach , which creates a pipeline to inspire new attorneys and volunteer opportunities for existing attorneys .
The Atlanta Bar and The Gate City Bar Collaboration The Atlanta Bar , the largest voluntary bar in the Southeast United States , seeks to eliminate biases , barriers and prejudices within the legal profession by creating and promoting environments that treat all individuals with respect and dignity . To that end , The Gate City Bar Association , the
16 April / May 2021 oldest African-American Bar Association in Georgia , has a dedicated seat on the Atlanta Bar ’ s Board . Recent Gate City / Atlanta Bar Board members include Cinque Axam , Caren Cloud , Shawntel Hebert , Harold E . Franklin , Jr ., and Clyde E . Mize , Jr . Franklin also served as Atlanta Bar President in 2015 , and Cloud served as the Co-Chair of the Law School Outreach Committee and continues to serve as Co-Chair of The Minority & Diversity Clerkship program .

The Atlanta Bar and the Anti-Defamation League (“ ADL ”) Share Leaders Countless Atlanta Bar leaders have also served on the ADL ’ s Southeast Region Board , and the Atlanta Bar supports the ADL ’ s annual Jurisprudence Luncheon Committee . This year ’ s honorees at the April 13 , 2021 virtual program included Atlanta
Bar members Justice Leah Ward Sears ( Lifetime Achievement Award ), Ana Maria Martinez ( Emerging Leader Award ), and Scott Zweigel ( Emerging Leader Award ). Martinez , co-founder of the Georgia Latino Law Foundation , serves on the Atlanta Bar ’ s Innovation Study Group . Zweigel also serves as a Board Member of the ADL and is the Civil Rights Committee Co-Chair for the Southern Region .
In past years , ADL selected Atlanta Bar leaders , including Casey Holloway , Lisa Liang , Jerico Phillips , and Nora Robb to participate in its cornerstone leadership development program , the Glass Leadership Institute . GLI offers participants an insider ’ s perspective of ADL ’ s programs , and a deep understanding of the cutting edge strategies employed to confront hate and bias .
