Lincoln on Professionalism CLE
Two judges from the United States District Court for
the Northern District of Georgia and others helped
lead a program titled “Lincoln on Professionalism”
at the end of the Atlanta Bar’s CLE March Madness.
Judge Leigh Martin May and Judge Thomas W. Thrash,
Jr. were joined by Arnall Golden Gregory’s Robert
Rothman and moderator Gardner Culpepper from
Rogers & Hardin to discuss certain aspects of President
Lincoln’s career as an attorney and their relevance
to practicing law today. Some of the discussion was
sparked by watching parts of a video on Lincoln that
was produced several years ago by the Atlanta Bar As-
sociation. The video and CLE program have been used
by Bar associations around the county.

Participants at the event watched and listened to por-
tions of the DVD about how, for example, Lincoln
developed his well-earned reputation for honesty and
candor. And through vignettes from the panel, and
the audience as well, the example set by Lincoln was
clarified as timeless. Simple rules that Lincoln followed,
like hard work and preparation, remain models for all
professionals to follow today.
The Lincoln on Professionalism CLE was presented
to a packed room of people who left not only learning
interesting facts about Lincoln, but also left reminded
of what values of Lincoln’s to emulate.
