The Paris attacks and
21° Aquarius

The Paris terrorist atrocities last year occurred
at moments which confirmed a recurring theme
in France’s horoscope(s), as the author seeks to
demonstrate
Although traditionally related to the sign of Leo1, France has a
‘sensitive’ point in the horoscope - at 21° Aquarius, the degree
of Neptune’s exaltation. Many momentous or tragic (often
terrorist) events in France’s history highlight this sign and
degree.
Think of Paris and one visualises the Eiffel Tower, named after
its creator Gustave Eiffel. When we progress his chart for the
moment the Eiffel Tower was officially presented to the world
(31 March 1889), we see his [progressed] Sun at 21° Aquarius.
In the horoscope of the First French Republic [26 September
1792 NS, Paris, 9:00 am], Pluto, the Ascendant ruler (the
capital) is at 21° Aquarius!
The famous WWII Normandy landings codenamed Operation
Neptune (termed D-Day) commenced on 6 June 1944. Solar
arc Mercury of the French First Republic was at 21° Aquarius.
Mercury rules the 8th house and symbolises disputes and
wars. That happened after the lunar eclipse on 14 May 1938 at
22° Scorpio 54’, which squares 21° Aquarius.
The French Fifth Republic was formed on 5 October 1958,
led by Charles De Gaulle, after two eclipses. One of them was
lunar at 21° Leo 14’ – on 11 February 1952. The other was solar
at 22° Scorpio 52’ – on 13 May 1957. In 1960 France tested its
first nuclear bomb in the Algerian desert, but there was also
the attack on the Strasbourg-Paris train on 18 June 1961 when
twenty-eight people died.
Alain Poher, who was twice acting President (once after De
Gaulle’s resignation in 1969, and the second time after the
sudden death of Georges Pompidou in 1974) had MC at 22°
Aquarius.
The most notable close associate of De Gaulle, Georges
Pompidou, became President of the Fifth French Republic
on 20 June 1969. His Asc/Dsc axis is across 20° Leo 25’/20°
Aquarius 25’. He died in office. All those events followed two

eclipses: on 15 August 1962 (lunar at 22° Aquarius 30’) and on
10 February 1971 (lunar at 20° Leo 55’).
Valéry Giscard d’Estaing became President of the French Fifth
Republic on 25 May 1974. He had Ascendant ruler (retrograde
Venus) at 20° Aquarius 59’. President for seven years, he was
succeeded by the famous socialist François Mitterrand, the
longest-serving President – in office fourteen years.
Mitterrand’s presidency began on 21 May 1981: his secondary
progressed Ascendant was at 20° Scorpio 44’, squaring 21°
Aquarius. At the same time, solar arc Moon of the French
First Republic was at 20° Leo 57’, also activating 21° Aquarius.
Mitterrand is remembered, among other things, for his
government’s so-called ‘Cohabitation’ with Chirac, and for
rising inflation. During his tenure there were three eclipses
that affected France. The first was on 12 November 1985, solar
at 20° Scorpio 09’, almost at the degree of his secondary Asc
at the time he became President. The lunar eclipse at 20° Leo
47’ followed on 9 February 1990. And lastly, on 13 November
