When working your jig in around every
pocket of a lay-down be prepared to miss a
few. Getting larger fish out of heavy cover
can be difficult that is why it is important
to have the appropriate equipment. Casting
outfits are most suitable for the job; a medium heavy action rod ranging anywhere
from 7’ 3” to 7’ 5” is perfect paired with a
high gear ratio casting real spooled with
17lb fluorocarbon or heavy braid depending on how thick the cover is. Leave no area
of a lay-down untouched, fish every nook
and cranny until you are confident you
have covered it all. Do not be afraid to cast
in seemingly risky areas; losing a lure or
two is common and it is a part of the process of targeting hard to reach bass.
