ver the years there have been modifications done on reels by
various fishing groups to increase the performance of their reels
and recently a friend and fellow angling writer suggested that I did
a test on ceramic bearings. I for one have not got into the craze of
reel modification (yet) although I have meddled and played with
reels that have been modified. Here’s a step in.

Bearings of such are known to give better casting distances as well
as a smoother feel. While I have cast a few modified reels these reels
have had more than their bearings changed. They’ve had their shafts
polished, spool changed to lighter ones, lube with high performance
oil, etc. On its own, how much difference would the bearings make,
is what I want to find out.
