Specimen Fishing
A ‘specimen’ is not a fish species, rather the term is to
indicate the pursuit of big fish specimens, or even a
record breaking fish.
Specimen hunters regularly seek out waters where
they are certain that such big fish exists, and some
target only a specific fish, even returning to the same
spot the following year, confident in the fact that the
fish they are after have grown heavier over the past
year.
Carp is a popular target species in Europe, so much
so that dedicated carp tackle, baits, fishing methods
and rigs are specifically developed to target these
huge fish in waters dedicated for carp fishing only.
These hardcore carp anglers dedicate their lives for
that record carp! The bigger specimens are even
named (such as Clarissa and Two Tone) and identified
based on their markings.
