Cork is a natural substance that
comes from certain trees (Cork
Oak). It is a buoyant, light, and
a fire retardant material (I don’t
recommend that you burn your
rod handle to see if this claim is
true) used for many other things
including fishing rod handles.

The top part of this handle is made of EVA
to look like cork.
