We recommend heading up The North Ridge , a classic 3-pitch 5.5 that offers incredible views of the upper reaches of the Linville Gorge , Hawksbill and Grandfather Mountain in the distance . The North Ridge is the last climb when approaching via the climber trail , so it provides a good opportunity to scout out other climbs in the area like Jim Dandy , White Lightning and Cave Route on the approach in . This is a very popular climb , so it ’ s always a good idea to try to get on early . The route requires trad climbing gear and multi-pitch experience .
