Honest Iago or King of Manipulation.

BY: Alyssa Carver

Iago is thought of as such a cunning guy. He holds near to many hearts, he is trusted and he is even known by honest Iago. But is he really honest or is he just a master at manipulation. The fact of the matter is we know what his goal in life is. He wants to be lieutenant and he wants those who he feels has neglected him to suffer. He is jealous, he wants the place of Cassio and he is made because he believes that Othello and Emilia have had an affair. I personally believe Iago had a knack for getting into those weak minds and twisting their thoughts into what he wants. Iago can get Roderigo to do anything and Emilia as well. He is very good at pretending like he cares, but all the catastrophes he wanted to happen happened. His criminal mind has caused a series of unfortunate events. He is a mastermind and never once does he show honesty he plays on words and justifies all he does. His way with words and his fake charismatic trait, he fools people into believing he is a descent and noble guy. A clown sees the dishonesty within Iago. Iago is a strong character in the mind but a weak in a physical manner, he can’t do his own dirty work so that is where it is proven he is a manipulator. He cons others into his dirty work, whether it’s killing Roderigo or him tricking Othello into believing Desdemona is dishonest, and even tricking his wide to betray her lady in waiting. Jealousy is his main problem, if he wasn’t so jealous I don’t believe he would be as manipulative as he is. He has turned angry, just completely mad at the world. Ago is not an honest man and he knows he will pay for his sins, but in the end he believes it is completely worth being the king of manipulation. “After some time, to abuse Othello's ear / that he is too familiar with his wife. / He hath a person and smooth dispose/ To be suspected, framed to make women false./ The Moor is of a free and open nature, / That thinks men honest that but seem to be so,/ And will as tenderly be led by the nose/As asses are. / (1.3) so clearly he is not an honest man but a total mind operator.
