Mohammed was born in Baghdad in 1962.
He has exhibited widely in galleries and
museums across the Middle East, Europe and
USA and participated in group shows at the
British Museum, Columbia University and the
Station Museum of Contemporary Art in
Houston, Texas.
Some of his latest works, Rain Song, were
exhibited in the Museum of Juniata College in
Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and in the Anya Tish
Gallery Word, Object, Motion exhibition in
Houston, Texas. His Paper Boats series was
exhibited in Al Markhiya Gallery in Qatar in 2012
and at the Station Museum of Contemporary
Art in Houston, Texas in March 2013. In April
2013, Darwish, also from the Longing Series,
was sold by Christie’s in their Modern and
Contemporary Arab, Iranian and
Contemporary Turkish Art Part II sale, in Dubai.
The Longing Series extends beyond childhood
games and dreams to the prevalent issue of
immigration either by choice or forced.
Mohammed’s work touches on the biographical.
He immigrated to the USA, as he puts it
“to escape bleeding homeland” of Iraq, leaving a
“hollow feeling of deep uprooting”.
