Judy Ann was born in Kingston Jamaica in 1945
and was educated at the Duncan of Jordanstone
College of Art, Dundee, Scotland, from 1960 to
1965. She is a prominent member of the
Jamaican art community and her career has a
lot to say about local attitudes to art. Her first
contact with art and the idea of making art was
as a result of meeting Albert Huie, who is now
regarded by many people as the real founder
of a recognisably Jamaican school of painting,
and who is certainly the leader of Jamaica’s
realist tendency.
