Afsoon?Iranian Men 2012 Edition 8/50 Artist stamp Framed Print of collage and watercolour on Somerset paper 42 x 30 cm Guide Price £950 “ As a Middle Eastern woman living and working in London I value my freedom highly. To be able to help a fellow artist or academic gain their freedom and continue to create is a great cause in which to be involved. This piece was inspired by a Persian expression, which loosely translates as “mountains don’t move but people do and will therefore come to face each-other again”. I like to associate it, in some way, with the idea of the possibility of return as free individuals to that which has been left behind. afsoon 18 Afsoon spent her childhood in Iran, and her late teens and early twenties in San Francisco, before settling in London. Her nomadic life is reflected in her work where East merges with West and the result is at once familiar and foreign. There are several layers to her work. At times she combines text with images, as well as combining different techniques such as linocut, photography, collage and etching. The result is a rich yet often playful and humorous tableau, which the audience is able to engage with and interpret in its own way. Her work is held in many different collections around the world, including the British Museum that holds fourteen of her pieces. ” The Art of Resistance? Defending Academic Freedom Lot 3
