Caterham Grads had at least 1 major rebuild that weekend, after one of their cars on the Saturday, literally ended up in one of the ditches to the side of the infamous Quarry corner.
As it was explained to me, this corner has the highest accident rate of any track in the UK.
If you put all track accidents together in the same pot from a year, Quarry corner at Castle Combe comes out with 25% of all accidents.
This was a fact that I found hard to imagine, because this was the first time ever I had been to Castle Combe track.
A 25% crash rate on one corner in a year? And that's not a statistic that's been pulled out of the air. That's a statistic that's been calculated by the FIA.
But as I found out, it's not a statistic that worries the drivers. They're fully aware of it, they know what to do to avoid ending up as part of those statistics, and they get on with the job at hand. Taking their car out onto track, regardless of the weather, and doing their best to get the points needed for their position and team placing in the series, so that they can either finish first, or in the best position possible for next year's championship.
