VICKERS STUDIO – DESIGNERS FOR LIVING
From a converted barn in the Hampshire countryside, John Vickers and his studio create interiors for some of the world’ s most discerning clients, on the water, on land and in the air.
Some luxury doesn’ t need to announce itself. You find it in the width of a floorboard, in the way light falls across a stone surface, in a room you simply don’ t want to leave. For John Vickers, founder of Vickers Studio, that quality is the point of everything the studio does. Through joinery, materials and proportion, the aim is to create spaces that feel instinctively right and form a genuine emotional bond with the people who live in them.
“ When we founded the studio in 2015, we identified that we wanted to work with clients who valued originality, expertise, and a truly collaborative process,” he says. More than a decade on, that philosophy still guides every commission. With his wife and business partner Gemma, John chooses projects that keep the studio true to that mission, whether the canvas is a superyacht, a private residence or an aircraft cabin.
John grew up by the sea on Hayling Island and studied Product Design. His 25-year career has taken him through some of the most respected names in luxury design. At Candy & Candy, the London property house known for its exacting residential interiors, he set up the yacht department. As a Senior Designer at Terence Disdale he worked on world-class private commissions, including the interior of a Bombardier Global 5000 private jet. He then returned to Redman Whiteley Dixon, where his career began, as a director, before founding Vickers Studio.
Today he leads a core team of eight. Gemma, as Creative Lead, oversees colour, fabric and art, and looks for the emotional spark in every scheme. Alongside the studio’ s high-end residential experts, the team also includes a dedicated FF & E specialist and an in-house visualiser, whose photo-real renders let clients walk through a space long before it exists.
