MILANO DESIGN WEEK 2023 BISAZZA PRESENTS THE COLLEZIONE VINCENT DARRÉ
and refined addition to Bisazza ’ s mosaic collections , sure to be a highlight of the upcoming FUORISALONE 2023 .
“ Bisazza is a brand that has long made me dream . My thoughts turned to the extraordinary mosaics of Pompeii , a mythical city for me , so I imagined creating a neoclassical décor inspired by Jean Cocteau , my pictorial icon , for his caryatids ; guardians of a secret temple .
Each symbolises a passage of life : the Deer , divine essence of the sacred ; the Unicorn , the impetuosity of desire ; and the Lyre , symbol of cosmic harmony .
At FUORISALONE 2023 , BISAZZA will present COLLEZIONE VINCENT DARRÉ , a new series of decorations in glass mosaic born from its first collaboration with French designer and artist , Vincent Darré . The collection will be on display at the Bisazza Milan Flagship Store , via Solferino 22 .
Known for his unmistakable style , extravagant , sophisticated , and rich in cultural references and refined irony , Vincent Darré approaches mosaic art for the first time , creating for Bisazza a series of mythological subjects inspired by recurring themes in his imaginative and eclectic universe : Neoclassicism and Surrealism .
The COLLEZIONE VINCENT DARRÉ includes four decorations in glass mosaic – Caryatides , Calliope , Erato and Thalia .
Caryatides , inspired by Neoclassicism , is a pattern composed of six modules featuring three mythological subjects in the form of caryatids - the Deer , the Unicorn , and the Lyre - alternating with architectural elements that resemble the columns of a classical temple .
Available in three color variants - Bleues , Grises and Vertes - Caryatides is crafted using careful and precise handwork . For the background and architectural elements , a digital technique with regular square tiles is employed , while the caryatid figures are brought to life using an artistic “ ad andamento ” process , in which every single tessera is cut and laid by hand to follow the flow of the design .
The Calliope , Erato and Thalia decorations are inspired by Darré ’ s love of Surrealism . Created using Bisazza ’ s digital technique , the three patterns are almost like paintings where the tiles are combined according to the same chromatic tone of green , baby blue , yellow , grey , and orange , creating figures which overlap in an unusual way , allowing the imagination to run free . Calliope , Erato and Thalia are a poetic representation of Darré ’ s creative style ; a tribute to his inspiring muses .
Born from the grandeur of Neoclassicism and the fantasy of Surrealism , the VINCENT DARRÉ COLLECTION is an innovative
The muses are a poetic representation of my inspirations . Calliope : my relationship with white paper and watercolor , the starting point for all my projects . Thalia : a chess game , my struggle to realise childhood dreams through work . Erato , the lyre , is one of my obsessions ; an allegory of theatrical performance that is a common thread through all my creations .” Vincent Darré .
