Founded in London in 2019 , JU-NNA creates pieces focusing on combining traditional Japanese Techniques with current and modern design .
Founded by Jun Nakamura after the completion of his M . A . Fashion Design Womenswear from Istituto Marangoni , Jun incorporates traditional Japanese Shibori into his collections , working with artisans in Asia to put a modern twist on a classic traditional art .
The art of the Japanese traditional handcraft Shibori is traditionally used for Kimono ’ s and is a time-consuming process that artisans begin to practice from childhood , passed down through generations . Shibori , the Japanese technique of tie-dye , has been slowly losing artisans as they grow older without replacements , as a result of modernisation and shrinkage within the Kimono industry .
JU-NNA ’ s Shibori collection aims to contribute to the preservation of this precious heritage , working with artisans and innovatively processes Shibori onto printed fabrics , which is a new and innovative process for the artisans , valuing the tradition whilst exploring technology .
