Located in former buildings from the 18th century , the hotel overlooks two parallel streets . The main entrance is in the charming street of Via Andegari , where you will arrive at an elegant arch and facade that reminds authenticity and splendor Italian palazzo . The second one is on the street above , Via Monte di Pietà , where the entrance gives direct access to the Bar and Seta Restaurant of the Mandarin Oriental hotel . Initially , the place was built as a luxurious Italian mansion named Palazzo Confalonieri . Since its creation , the four buildings hosted various Italian institutions , such as the city ’ s tax office between the 1930s and 1950s and a bank from the 60s .
In 2007 , the entire renovation project of these four buildings , 12 000sqm , started to construct the Mandarin Oriental , Milan . The 5-star hotel finally settled in the iconic building in 2015 . They chose the ultimate Milanese interior design company Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel , to design this project . The famous archistar Antonio Citterio well-combined a classic Milanese style with strong decorative materials and expressive colors in the hotel ’ s interior , nuanced by a neutral and rigorous design language and custom-made furniture .
