ART & SCULPTURE
“ I had a severe allergic reaction to the anaesthetic and lost the vision in both eyes for three months .”
Thankfully he eventually recovered and was able to get back on course with the plan to launch his new gallery .
The first exhibition showcases the pop art style for which Alan is renowned , bringing to life the excitement of the world of racing which has been well received in a place where its own international renowned Grand Prix is not taking place this year .
Other pieces bring to life the excitement of life on the French Riviera , with glamourous women who would be found watching the races or simply swanning around luxury yachts .
“ As a child I loved the racing but what really intrigued me was the glamour off the track , the glitz and glamour that arrive when the F1 roadshow comes to town ,” he said .
“ I was also captivated by the luxury brands associated with the sport , designer watches and the way the women around the circuit would dress .
“ In the end I was drawing the people around the circuit as much as the racing itself and these are some of the subjects that are reflected in my collections to this day .”
Alan ended up in Monaco after years of working in both Sydney and Los Angeles , staging a number of exhibitions in both locations across the years and owning two galleries .
It was after collaborating with F1 star Daniel Riccardo and Blue Coast Brewing at the 2018 Monaco Grande Prix which drew him and his wife Emily to considering a move to the Cote D ’ azur , finally relocating last year .
The pieces currently on show are not only perfect for racing fans but anyone who appreciates an original piece of art .
The rear of the gallery hosts a custom-built studio where visitors can watch Alan work , with the option for individual commissions .
“ It ’ s been a hard ride to get to this point ,” he said .
“ It was only four years ago that I was sleeping on the store room floor of my first gallery in Sydney because I couldn ’ t afford both a gallery and an apartment .
“ It ’ s hard work and determination that ’ s got me to where I am today , turning my dreams into achievable goals .”
