AUTOMOTIVE
Due to the drive being in central London, I never truly got to
experience the versatility of the car, which was a shame as I was
eager to really feel the almost unrivalled power a car of this size
and weight offers. It was clear that the car was rearing to be let
loose and with sport mode activated heads were turning. If you
wish to hear the sheer power that is available, there are plenty
of videos online showing just how rapid the Continental GT is
when un-caged. All of this is made possible by the enhanced
version of Bentley’s peerless 6.0-litre, W12 TSI engine that sets
a new benchmark in performance. Designed, developed and
hand built in Crewe, the W12 TSI Engine is the most advanced
21-cylinder engine in the world. The unique ‘W’ configuration
means the engine is 24 per cent shorter than an equivalent
v12, benefitting weight distribution and maximising usable
cabin space. This means that the car produces 626 bhp, with an
acceleration speed of 0-60 mph in only 3.6 seconds.
Bentley have managed to produce a car which is capable
of everything you can throw at it. Whether that be driving at
50 degrees Celsius in Death Valley, driving over frozen lakes
and snow in Sweden, attending an evening dinner party, or
even pushing it to the limit at a track day. The new Bentley
Continental GT has left a strong lasting impression on me, one
off class, refinement, power and craftmanship… and what a
feeling that is.
