BE ARKTOS: SCULPTURAL FURNITURE, HANDCRAFTED FOR INDIVIDUAL SPACES

For German designer and master metalworker Benno Lang, furniture is more than an object placed within an interior. It is a response to its surroundings, to architecture, proportion, material and the people who will use it. Through Be Arktos, Lang creates distinctive furniture that combines sculptural expression with everyday function.
Growing up in the Bavarian Forest, Lang developed an early fascination with steel, a material defined by an intriguing balance of strength, rigidity and malleability. This fascination led to an apprenticeship in metal construction and qualification as a master craftsman, before he expanded his focus into design. Today, these disciplines remain inseparable in his work. Lang designs and handcrafts every Be Arktos piece himself in Germany, maintaining a direct connection between the original idea, the material and the finished object.
Rather than applying one solution to every setting, Be Arktos approaches furniture individually. Each design is considered in relation to its intended room, use and atmosphere. The aim is to create high-quality, enduring pieces that feel personal to their owners while establishing a strong and recognisable presence within residential interiors. Steel is combined with carefully selected wood, upholstery and finishes, balancing structural clarity with warmth and tactility.
A close view of Hallta’ s interlocking burnished-steel plates and the underside of the natural beech tabletop, revealing the table’ s structural rhythm and hand-finished surfaces.
Hallta appears remarkably light. The tabletop seems to balance above the structure, giving the table an almost floating quality. Created for generous, open interiors, it functions as both a gathering place and a sculptural centrepiece.
Other pieces explore the same dialogue in different ways. Immoso combines solid ash, curved powder-coated steel frames and soft upholstery in an embracing sofa designed for conversation, relaxation and a sense of arrival. Tupperstoo focuses on the intimacy of handcraft. Its roundsteel frame is forged and formed by hand, deliberately retaining the marks of its making. A separate wooden seat rests on the structure through balance rather than a conventional fixing, creating a modular, stackable object that moves easily between functional furniture and sculpture.
Across the collection, strength is never treated as heaviness and individuality is never reduced to decoration. Be Arktos creates furniture in which craftsmanship, material, individual spaces and ways of living become part of one coherent design- objects made not simply to occupy a room, but to give it character.
Hallta demonstrates this approach on an architectural scale. The four-metre table is formed from two folded, interlocking plates of burnished steel, which sweep beneath a slender natural beech top like a continuous wave. Despite the size and weight of its components,
Immoso by Be Arktos combines solid ash, curved powder-coated steel frames and soft upholstery in a sofa with a calm, embracing silhouette designed for conversation and rest.
