SENSIETNA
MATTEO THUN E BENEDETTO FASCIANA
SensiEtna was born from the collaboration between Florim and Matteo Thun & Partners as a tribute to the primordial force of nature, inviting us on a journey to Sicily, to Mount Etna, the island’ s iconic volcano.
At the heart of the project lies the use of lava as a distinctive natural element, celebrating matter in its rawest, most powerful, and most beautiful expression. This design journey comes to life through the expertise of Nerosicilia, an Italian company specialized in the production and processing of natural surfaces.
The encounter between lava and the minerals found within the volcano gives rise to an astonishing range of colors, the visual expression of a one-of-a-kind natural process. From this same interaction emerges a rich and textured tactile dimension, lending the material a bold and distinctive mineral composition, reminiscent of“ scoria”, the porous outer layer of volcanic stone that is shaped and refined into form.
Etna’ s lava stone, known for its extraordinary durability, embodies the essence of Sicily: a land of contrasts, raw energy, and deeprooted identity. Its inherently solid and long-lasting nature makes it a material that stands the test of time, retaining both its beauty and functionality unchanged.
SensiEtna is designed to bring a sense of natural harmony back to interiors, offering a conscious and responsible approach to design. It’ s the result of a union between lava stone and glass, two materials fused together to form a sustainable and harmonious blend.
Recycling and reusing lava slab offcuts from local production facilities is both the foundation and the culmination of the collection’ s concept. Lava is a living, ever-evolving element, and it is precisely this regenerative nature that makes it a symbol of balance
