This year’ s shortlisted residential projects highlight how designers are creating contemporary homes which balance beauty with function.
NATALIA MIYAR ATELIER – A CHROMATIC TOWNHOUSE
Originally a Grade II listed late Georgian terraced townhouse, this project sensitively restored and reimagined the space as a contemporary family home. The brief called for interiors that felt distinctive yet relaxed, supporting everyday living while respecting the building’ s historic architecture through rich colour and layered textures.
Natalia Miyar Atlelier refined the existing layout to improve circulation and functionality, balancing preservation of the building’ s historic character with contemporary residential needs. The design promotes wellbeing through prioritising natural light, while practical elements such as integrated storage and bespoke joinery maintain aesthetic cohesion and functionality.
Curved joinery and softened forms counterbalance the linear geometry of Georgian interiors, while saturated tones define character and atmosphere, highlighting architectural features. By focusing on the retention and repair of historic fabrics, reinstating and enhancing the property’ s original features, the restoration was able to preserve the building’ s character, while introducing a new, usable, and visually striking element.
