AUTHENTIC BY DESIGN:
THE STORYTELLING CRAFT OF WOODBENDER
Niche Bespoke Interiors
At Woodbender, every piece begins with a story, shaped not only by design intent, but by the people, process, and material that bring it to life. Authenticity is not applied at the end, it is embedded from the start. It lives in the way timber is handled, in the decisions made by skilled hands, and in the relationship between making and meaning.
A Manufacturer, By Design At its core, Woodbender is a manufacturer where process sits at the heart of everything we do, guiding an authentic approach to design. Steam bending shapes each piece from concept to completion, with design and production evolving together to create furniture that feels considered and grounded. Precision matters, as does the human touch behind every piece. Shaped by skilled hands, each reflects consistent process and natural variation in timber, resulting in unique character and a distinct presence within each piece.
The Hands Behind the Craft Central to this way of working are the people behind the craft. Each craftsmen brings experience, sensitivity, and judgement that shape the final outcome. Their role is not simply to follow a process, but to interpret it, responding to the material in real time. This human element ensures that every piece holds a quiet narrative of its making, one that cannot be replicated or rushed.
Introducing Scoop 33 This philosophy is brought into focus through the Scoop 33 Chair, a new design by Jordan Bailiff and realised in collaboration with Grant Longmore, Woodbender’ s Head of Technical. The chair emerges directly from the possibilities of steam bending, its form shaped through a process of continuous refinement. Thirty three individual bends were required to achieve its final expression, each one contributing to a structure that balances strength, comfort, and lightness.
Redefined Design Philosophy Scoop 33 embodies a redefined design philosophy shaped through the close relationship between design and making. Conceived by Jordan and realised with the technical expertise of Grant, the piece reflects a shared commitment to clarity, restraint, and precision. Developed through ongoing refinement, the design balances form, comfort, and structure, resulting in a chair that feels both intuitive and enduring. Each curve is carefully resolved to support the body while expressing the inherent qualities and natural character of the timber.
Authenticity in Every Detail Despite the control required in its making, no two Scoop 33 chairs are identical. The natural variation of the timber, combined with the role of the hand, gives each piece a distinct presence. Grain, tone, and subtle shifts in form ensure that every chair carries its own character. These differences may be quiet, but they connect the object to its origin, reinforcing the authenticity and integrity that define Woodbender’ s work.
Experience It at Clerkenwell The Scoop 33 Chair will be presented at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026, offering an opportunity to experience this approach firsthand. Visitors are invited to engage not only with the piece, but with the story behind it, to understand how material, process, and people come together in every curve. It is an open invitation to connect with Woodbender as a brand, to explore the craft that underpins it, and to discover how authenticity is shaped through making.
