A Living Craft Nearly four decades ago, Charles Mast established Woodbender with a pioneering belief in the potential of steam-bent timber. His willingness to challenge convention laid the foundation for what the company would become. That early spirit remains embedded in our culture today. It lives in the balance between experimentation and discipline, between ambition and restraint. The legacy is not preserved in sentiment, but in continued progression.
The Power of Restraint Craft and innovation are inseparable. We believe art is not found in excess, but in restraint— allowing material, form, and function to exist without unnecessary intervention. Every curve serves a purpose.
Every decision is deliberate. Nothing is added without reason.
Legacy in Motion Legacy, for Woodbender, is not static. It is carried forward— from Charles Mast’ s founding vision to the leadership shaping its future today. It lives in the dialogue between design and technique, in uncompromising standards, and in a pioneering spirit that continues to explore what steam bending can become.
Clerkenwell Design Week 2026 To mark this next chapter, Woodbender will present its new design expression at Clerkenwell Design Week 2026. The showcase offers an opportunity to experience the material, method, and thinking behind every curve— to engage with steam bending not simply as a technique, but as a defined design language. Central to the exhibition is our Scoop 33 Chair, which embodies our design philosophy and steam bending mastery. Every curve reflects the interplay of form, comfort, and structural integrity, showing how innovation emerges from restraint, precision, and deep material understanding. It is a continuation of our legacy in motion and a clear statement of where Woodbender moves next.
