29 curated selection of international pavilions – from the returning Danish Pavilion to newcomers including the Korean , Portuguese and Thai Pavilions .
Presented by Trade World and Korea Messe with the support of the Ministry of SMEs and Start-ups and the Korea Federation of SMEs , the Korean Pavilion will be home to some of the country ’ s best small- to medium-sized design companies . Products on show range from ceramics , furniture , home accessories and kitchenware .
Also new to the show is the Portuguese Association of Wood and Furniture Industries ( AIMMP ). Its core mission is to represent , promote and protect Portuguese companies from five divisions that make up the wood and furniture sector : wood cutting , felling , sawing and wood packing ; wood derivatives and energy ; carpentry and alike ; furniture and alike ; export , import and distribution of wood and derivatives . At Design London , the Portuguese Pavilion will comprise 13 leading brands – showcasing a range of products that are 100 % designed and manufactured in Portugal .
Similarly , 12 sustainable and eco-conscious furniture and home decoration brands have been selected to represent the Thai Pavilion . In response to the urgent issue of global climate change , the Department of International Trade Promotion ( DITP ) of the Royal Thai Government has launched the “ Thailand Be the ChanGe ” initiative – highlighting some of the most forwardthinking Thai creative businesses working within the Government ’ s Bio-Circular-Green ( BCG ) model . At the show , the Pavilion will showcase a curated portfolio of homeware , furniture and lifestyle pieces that has been created to meet the rising global demand for more sustainable and eco-conscious products .
Meanwhile , this year ’ s event welcomes the second edition of Discussions at Design London – its thought-provoking talks programme that comprises headline keynotes , trend forecasts and panel discussions with a range of high-profile industry experts , influencers and thought leaders . Brand consultant Katie Richardson returns to curate the series , which runs daily throughout the show and offers an insight into future trends while addressing the most pressing topics within design , architecture and the wider creative industries .
Sponsored by Kohler , the talks see some of the best industry and household names descend on the show and will open with internationally acclaimed designer , Lee Broom . Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marcelis ; sustainability advocate Jay Blades MBE , best known for presenting the hit TV series on the BBC , The Repair Shop ; and multidisciplinary artist Marco Oggian , will also feature as speakers for 2022 .
Last but not least , Design London 2022 boasts a whole host of collaborations – from sought-after brands to experiential installations . Some of the highlights include lighting centrepieces by Ago and Haberdashery ; a graphic feature by Lois O ’ Hara to welcome visitors ; and an exclusive bar from Kyrö Distillery Company – the show ’ s official whisky and gin partner – to mark the brand ’ s 10th anniversary . Situated in the main thoroughfare of the event and designed by fellow Finnish brand Vaarnii , the Kyrö bar is set to be constructed entirely out of pine – a “ brutally Finnish ” masterpiece to complement the all-rye distillery ’ s “ brutally Finnish ” spirits .
What ’ s more , Versarien – which develops and manufactures advanced material technologies , with the purpose of improving the environment – has teamed up with British artist and designer , Steuart Padwick to create a 3-D printed installation at Design London . Using 100 % cement free concrete reinforced with Graphene , this special feature – titled Island Steps – has been designed as a playful oasis which can be located both indoors and outdoors . Not only does 3-D printing significantly reduce the volume of concrete needed , the special mortar being cement free also reduces the carbon footprint by over 70 %.
