PLAN , PLAN , PLAN !
A bathroom is a practical space that is used frequently , and careful planning will make the most of the space you have . Consider who the primary users are ; family bathrooms need to make the best use of space as they have multiple users , while en-suite bathrooms will only see use from a couple or solo occupant .
Planning the layout is key to ensure all the plumbing and electrical elements are correct in the early stages of the project . Any issues with these later on can be costly and look unsightly . Draw up a floor plan to decide what features your room should have and how they will work together . Even a very small bathroom can be turned into a practical sanctuary with some thorough planning .
GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR TILING
Make a feature out of your tiling . Use subtle patterns on your tiles to experiment with colour or introduce different coloured grouts as this can completely transform a basic tile into a statement piece . Look at incorporating different laying techniques such as herringbone or a vertical lay , something different to your typical ‘ brink-bond ’ effect . Hexagonal , mosaic or decorate designs are effective if kept to a limited area .
