“ We are so proud of our latest installation , ‘ Envolée ’, meaning ‘ to fly ’ in French ”, says Alison Smith , Creative Manager at Nulty Bespoke . “ We wanted to symbolically represent strength in numbers and the complexities of bird flight . Each component is intricate in its own way , but when they appear together , their shape mimics bird murmuration and the movement of soaring .”
The installation hangs above the stairwell , which connects the reception to the mezzanine floor . The large double height space of the reception area encouraged the team to design something that would use as much of the space as possible in order to create a breath-taking focal point for those entering the building . The composition travels alongside those moving from one floor to the other via the stairs and mimics the curvature of the stairwell design .
Each component is suspended from the ceiling using gold finished cables . Nulty Bespoke strategically added adjustable downlights in the ceiling to increase light levels for the composition and enhance the play between light and shadow . This has helped to make the feature more prominent in the space and to animate the birds and elevate their presence . The downlights are orientated in a way to ensure holistic coverage of the space beneath them . Light pours down onto each component , catching their sparkle and enhancing their lustrous aesthetic .
