2017 Arc Angel Gala Honorees
The Arc Foundation of Somerset County is proud to honor our Arc Angels
Celebrating 45 Years of Service
Fred Patterson
Fred Patterson was a true hero in the disability movement. Inspired by
his daughter, Kathy who was born with significant and complex
disabilities, Fred used his experience as a parent of a child with
special needs to become a state and national leader in the disability
movement. Fred was appointed as the first chairman of the Governor's
council on the prevention of disabilities by Governor Kean. The list of
accomplishments and disability initiatives is endless, but his impact
was felt most on the local level. Fred was a founding member of the
Board of Directors for The Arc of Somerset County and sat on the
Board of Directors of The Arc of NJ for several years. Fred impacted
the lives of so many individuals with disabilities and his influence in
the disability movement will continue to be felt for years to come. We
are honored to recognize Fred as one of our Arc Angels at our 45th
gala celebration.
Maximillian “Max” Spann
Max devoted his efforts to many charities and his church. His second
daughter, Elizabeth Rose was born with developmental disabilities and
Max and his wife Jean have been involved with The Arc ever since. Max
was an active supporter of the pioneer movement for the establishment
of homes in the community for the developmentally disabled
population. Max served as the 3rd President of The Arc of Somerset
County and served on the Board of the Arc of NJ. As a successful Real
Estate and Auction company owner, he was pivotal in the purchase of
Camp Jotoni, which has been providing recreational programs for
campers with disabilities for the past 41 years. We are pleased to honor
Max Spann as one of our Arc Angels at this 45th gala celebration.
