President ’ s Message
Welcome fire chiefs , friends , and valued Metalfab customers to another edition of our quarterly newsletter . We have lots of great information to share with you this issue .
For starters , we offer resources for firefighters suffering from job-related mental illness and tips around how you can support them . Firefighter trauma is something we don ’ t talk about enough , but it ’ s important to recognize that the brave men and women in our fire service are at high risk for developing PTSD and other trauma disorders . From recognizing the signs to reaching out for help to working with caring organizations like Ride for Suicide Awareness and Operation White Heart , Metalfab wants to support your journey . Learn more about what we ’ re doing and what you can do on page 4 .
We get into the nitty gritty of firefighting life with two Canadian fire departments : Ontario ’ s Zorra Fire & Emergency Services and Alberta ’ s Picture Butte Emergency Services .
Zorra Fire & Emergency Services , who recently replaced their 1998 Freightliner FL80 Fire Pumper with a custom fire truck from Metalfab and Safetek Profire , is now better meeting the needs of their community with increased storage , onboard PPE , and a number of other nimble features . Of the eight trucks in their fleet , four are now manufactured by Metalfab . Fire Chief Deanna Kirwin tells more on how the truck is serving her department and her experience working with us on page 3 .
Picture Butte Emergency Services ’ engine was ordered just before COVID and is just finishing up final inspections at the time of this newsletter . This department , located in the thriving prairie town of Picture Butte , was a pioneer of Metalfab ’ s HEAT design , which offers a larger pump size , additional discharges , and a large tank for their rural operations . You can read about the build and learn about the local fire department along with their community on page 6 .
