A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

End of Year Review

APDT Board achieved many accomplishments in 2022 , but still needs YOUR input to continue shaping our industry

Wow , 2022 was a busy year ! I ’ m very proud of the APDT Board ’ s accomplishments , here ’ s a quick year-end review .

APDT ’ s Online Trainer Search features 100-percent LIMA-complaint trainers ! Before a new member joins or current members renew their memberships , they must sign and attest to LIMA compliance to be listed on the APDT online dog trainer search . To ensure LIMA compliance , we ’ ve created a robust Ethics Committee to review member complaints or concerns for LIMA-attested members . When searching for dog trainers , you can be assured the APDT dog trainer search is safer and follows LIMA . In 2023 , we will implement our updated LIMA position statement for our trainer search , so stay tuned .
We took a stand when we revised the LIMA Position Statement . Keep an eye out as we incorporate this new statement within APDT ’ s culture , such as trainer attestation , vendor standards , education and so much more . Our Education Committee created an updated LIMA Position Statement FAQ for clarity based on several member comments . ( See page 42 ).
Dog trainer licensing , legislation and industry standard creation was a massive undertaking this year . APDT partnered with CCPDT to create The Alliance , which launched a website , and partnered with lobbyists and attorneys to take these actions to the legislation floor . Additionally , our Legislative Task Force continues to monitor proposed dog trainer licensing legislation which impacts all of us . To continue strengthening our industry , APDT has and will continue to build alliances with corporations and organizations on the worldwide stage .
Our mighty Diversity , Equity and Inclusion ( DEI ) team has been busy . They created , submitted , and reported a member survey ( on page 17 within this issue of Chronicle of the Dog ) with the intent of uncovering the status of DEI within our professional community . Please read through this survey carefully ; it ’ s eye opening and provides many opportunities for our industry .
Our annual conference was informative and relaxing ; many attendees left recharged and ready to see clients ! From the sea of tie-dyed shirts , beach bags , beautiful sunsets on the beach , morning yoga , decompression room , amazing speakers and smiling faces , our conference feedback was very positive . We look forward to seeing you in Northern Kentucky / Cincinnati , Ohio in October 2023 .
A very special thank you for our committees , task force , team volunteers and Border Collies ! Your hard work is much appreciated . Please , if you would like to shape our dog training industry , please consider volunteering with APDT , we need you .
Thank you to our members ! Your member survey feedback has shaped all of these accomplishments within APDT , which ultimately affects our industry , so pat yourself on the back , too . Please continue to provide feedback whenever a survey pops into your inbox . It has been an absolute pleasure and honor being your 2022 Chair . Have a wonderful , relaxing , safe , and prosperous 2023 !

Certification is an important part of creating industry standards , so APDT created and launched an online CPDT-KA Prep Course . If you ’ re planning to take the CPDT-KA exam , take a peek at the CPDT-KA Prep Course , we think you ’ ll like it .
