Spotlight on Margaret Sanger
Name: Margaret Sanger
Born: September 14, 1879
Died: September 6, 1966
Margaret Sanger was famous for
organizing the Birth Control
Movement in America. She was
also a writer and a nurse. She
used her writings and her
medical knowledge to educate
women on sex and to promote
birth control. She founded the
American Birth Control League
which later evolved into the
Planned Parenthood Federation
of America.
In her movement, Margaret
Sanger spoke out for the cause
of unwanted pregnancy which
would be controlled by birth
control. The Birth Control
Movement helped with women’s
rights because Sanger allowed
women to look past the
traditionalist view and what
was expected of them as women.
Additionally during that time
period, basic information on
sexuality, anatomy, etc. were
not discussed. Sanger took a
risk to educate women on
pregnancy and birth control.
