LASER COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS – SOUTH LAKE MACQUARIE AMATUER SAILING CLUB
Over the weekend 22 / 23 October , a large group of RPA Laser Sailors hit the highway again , this time heading North to Lake Macquarie for the Laser Coasts run out of SLMASC . The club are starting this season as they finished , with a very strong representation - 9 - 4.7 ( out of 21 entries !), 9 - Radials ( out of 45 ) and a lone Standard out of 17 . We had a long wait on the Saturday for breeze , but as soon as it came in . We then managed three races in a shifty breeze before heading home pretty late and pretty tired . Zander got a bullet in the 1st race and a 2nd in the 3rd . We knew the southerly was going to build , and by Sunday morning we were not to be let down . We managed a further 2 races and Nathan did as much as he could to try and win the regatta by posting two back to back bullets in a breeze well over 30 knots . Unfortunately he came up one point short and got 2nd overall to his mate in the NSW squad , Jack Littlechild . Over in the Radials , Jarrah was the top RPA boat in 14 , with a couple of other 4.7 migrants , James and Georgia surviving the conditions . All alone in the Standards , Stuart had a great 2nd day and moved up to 2nd overall . A great regatta and some very sore bodies ! States are up coming up next month so enter now - they ’ re down at Georges River so we should be able to get an even bigger group out hopefully . Also , South Lake are running their Zhik regatta on 5 / 6 November and there will be running a Laser course , so check that out as well . Results were :

Club Marine App wins top innovation award
Club Marine , Australia ’ s market leader in recreational boat insurance , is excited to announce it has won the Innovation of the Year Award at the 2016 Australian Insurance Awards for its innovative Club Marine App . The awards , hosted by the RFi Group and Australian Banking and Finance ( AB + F ), were held on October 13 .
Club Marine ’ s new app provides Club Marine members with free access to severe-weather alerts that can help protect them on and off the water , along with features like quick access to policy information , a member self-serve portal and safety tips .
Commenting on Club Marine ’ s win , CEO Simon McLean said the app came about because of a gap in the market for a single source of information that would help boat owners , from managing their insurance policies to checking for severe-weather alerts .
“ Research highlighted that boat owners were using multiple apps and websites to access important information , including weather alerts , records of licenses and trips , safety information , checklists and key insurance services ,” Simon said .
“ The Club Marine App is an insurance and lifestyle app that provides boat owners with access to valuable , real-time information , including weather alerts , safety tips and trip planners .
“ But more than that , it helps them control their boating and insurance needs – including managing their policies in a single location , lodging a claim , and on-demand access to certificates of currency . The app supports the diverse needs of the market in one simple and easy-to-use app .” Within four months , the app has been downloaded more than 8000 times , has recorded 138,000 visits , received a 3.2-star Google Play rating , sent more than 400 severe-weather alerts and recorded some 1000 online transactions .
“ We have received very positive feedback from users across the marine and insurance industry and have been able to help people avoid damage or loss to their boats with our new severe-weather alert . I am proud of how the app has been able to help customers during weather events , because helping is truly at the heart of everything we do ,” Simon said .
“ The innovation award reaffirms Club Marine ’ s commitment to delivering innovative solutions to our customers and our unrelenting focus on meeting customer needs right across our business ,” he said .
