2016 RPAYC Golf Challenge
The annual RPAYC GOLF CHALLENGE was
played on Friday 21st October at Bayview
Golf Club with 72 members and guests
enjoying a perfect day of golf.
The four ball Ambrose format allowed
experienced and not so experienced
golfers to compete for the Trophy and
many prizes on an equal footing.
Registration together with a breakfast of
tea, coffee, juice, cereal, fruit & yoghurt
and toast for all from 7 o’clock.
The course was in excellent condition
with new additions to several holes, to
give competitors some new challenges
on the day.
All teams teed off from the 1st and
12th tee, and headed off round the
course, fun and games for all with lots of
challenges, with straightest drives, and
nearest the pin prizes on offer.
A major prize donated by the Bayview
Pro Neil Rolfe, of an hour long session at
the New Indoor Golf Centre attracted a
lot of attention with an inspection of the
facility prior to hit off by many teams.
After four hours of play the players
gathered in the clubhouse at 1.30 for a
great lunch, a few drinks and the prize
giving.
An array of great prizes, lunch vouchers
from the RPAYC, golf lessons, rum,
champagne, wine, golf gear and golf
balls awaited the winners.
The overall winner on the day was, The
Bolter with Rick Welch, Bernd Fisher,
David Baker and Bob Sims with a gross
60, and a Nett 48.75 which included 10
birdies in their round.
Second on the day was Team Pacesetter,
Tony Doyle, Steve McConaghy, John
Wenborne, and John Young, who had
a gross score of 65 and a Nett 53.25
including 7 birdies in their round.
Third overall was Team Ming with Bob
Mander, Susie McCarthy, Shaun Colley
and Heather Jones with a gross 63 and a
Nett 54.625.
The best all women’s team was
Team Second Time Around, with Di
McConaghy, Jan Croll, Jenni Berry and
Kate Hatton.
The straightest drive challenge on the
13th went to Ian Perkes for the men and
Chrissy Gleeson for the women.
Nearest the pin on the 8th hole went to
Bob Sims and Marlene McKewen.
Nearest the pin on the 16th went to
Steve Howe and Heather Jones.
Best dressed team went to the two teams
from Wild Oats in the crew red shirts.
A big thanks to the Pro shop for getting
everyone away hassle free, and all the
staff at Bayview for the service provided
during the day.
