Friends of David Booth Trophy Race
Around 300 participants have taken part in the first-ever Friends of David Booth Trophy race to Lion Island. The constant drizzle and cooler winds couldn’ t dampen the spirits of all those who participated lighting up Pittwater with their spinnakers in the downwind pursuit start. With the southerly breeze reaching 20 knots it launched the 34 starters down Pittwater and almost out of sight into the grey mist. Emerging from the fleet was Pacesetter, who had a great race picking the right shifts and became the winners of the first Friends of David Booth Trophy. Coming in 2nd place was Pretty Woman and third place was Whisper II. In a packed out Halyards for the presentation, Commodore Ian Audsley thanked all those involved for making such a memorable race.“ I’ d like to thank all those who participated, it was great to see everyone out there commemorating David“ Boothy” and making the race such a memorable occasion and I’ d also like to thank the Friends of David Booth and the Club for the wonderful contribution to the event and the trophy.” said Ian. The Friends of David Booth trophy encapsulates the communal spirit of the Members of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and will be displayed at the Club for many years. The annual event will be held on the last Saturday of February.
