What is the Dicko Cup Marathon
Series?
The Dicko Cup is a once a year trophy originally organised and presented
by S. R. Dickinson in the 1950’s. The idea was to provide a holiday race for
family cruiser-type boats, crewed by the family (for some including the
dog) and, if possible, towing a dinghy (for which you gain a better
handicap). It’s a non-spinnaker race.
Cruising boats are welcome to participate as well with a return rally from
Hallets Beach to be announced on Sunday morning.
The course starts in the vicinity of Bayview, Towlers to starboard, Stokes
to port, Mackerel to starboard, take Lion Island to port and finish off at
Hallets Beach.
On the beach, the club provided a bar-be-que and finger food (aka
sangers), everything else is BYO. Kids and adults can swim in the beautiful,
clear water and all can watched the sun go down before retiring to boats
to sleep overnight.
Sunday, high noon, the starter’s boat sends the fleet off on the return leg to the Club on a reverse of the Saturday course. A
nice, long starboard beat to the Island, keeping it to starboard and then a bear away on port for Mackerel.
For those that can’t attend both races a casual race on Saturday is held to Hallets Beach and spinnakers are permitted.
