The monster tigerfish caught by Steven
Macdonald around the floating fish
farming cages at Antelope Island is
typical of what one would expect these
days from that area. These tiger seem
to be prowling the cages, picking off
free ranging bream attracted to the
cages by the fish food used to feed
their captive brothers, and will take
live-bait, kapenta and spinners. What
is very interesting about Steven’s fish
is its lack of teeth, and those which
were present were relatively small in
size for such a big fish. Tigerfish are
known to replace their teeth several
times throughout their lives, and it is
believed they can shed and replace them
all within a month. This however, does
not seem to stop them feeding and being
aggressive, and reports of sizeable,
toothless tigerfish are not uncommon.
