Mail Bag • R e a d e r s' L e t t e r s • Dear Editor I have been an avid and passionate angler since I was knee-high to my dad, or to put it in Zenglish, since my life. I am a young sprightly 42, or so I keep telling myself, and am lucky enough to have two beautiful daughters aged 14 and 18. Fishing, being my second true love, after my wife of course, has made me want my daughters to adopt the same yearning for the sport/pastime as I have. Alas all my efforts have been in vain and neither of them seems interested. It is with this thought in mind that I would like to make a donation to the Junior Angling Fund, which I notice from recent issues is in serious need of a boost. Here’s hoping that all the parents out there that have children who are interested in fishing take the time to encourage them and cultivate their interest in this wonderful hobby. Yours sincerely, Andrew Diamondis Harare Zimbabwe Thank you very much for the generous donation. The folly of youth. Rest assured the fishing bug might not have taken with your daughters yet, but I have no doubt that one day it will. As Old Izaak once said - “No life is so happy and so pleasant as the life of the well-govern’d angler.” Editor Dear Editor Thank you for a wonderful magazine. I must say that your mag has helped educate my passion for African angling. There is always a lot of useful information in each issue. I am interested in fishing the Zambezi for tigerfish around the Chewore confluence. It is my understanding that this is the place to catch some real trophy specimens. The problem is that I cannot find any self-catering accommodation or campsites. Do you know of any? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Yunus M Pandor United Kingdom Thank you for your kind comments. Zimbabwe National Parks have a campsite situated right at the Zambezi and Chewore confluence. The site does not offer much in the way of facilities, and the drive-in is an adventure in itself, but you couldn’t ask for a better setting. For more information contact National Parks on Harare (+263-4) 706077/8 or 250658, or Fax (+263-4) 726089 - Editor V o l . 19 # 2 Dear Editor I have been trying without success to get some information regarding bass fishing venues other than Mteri. I am especially interested in a dam called Mushandike near Masvingo. Also any private dams around Triangle or the Lake Kyle area. We have fished Osborne, Kyle, Meteri, Manyuchi, Zhovhe, etc. but would like to expand, as long as it is around 350km from the border due to the range of my fuel tank. If anyone is able to assist me with information, such as contact numbers regarding accommodation, camping etc. I would be grateful. I can be reached on the following e-mail address - [email protected] Regards E.V.Welman South Africa Dear Editor What is going on guys? We are waiting for the best magazine in the world and it is not here! We have not received a copy of the best fisherman’s (woman’s) magazine for a few months! T R Wellbeloved Zimbabwe Well, we have had huge problems and changes, but trust me we are still going. Through necessity we have had to enter into a partnership with a company in RSA and are printing the magazine down there now. These changes have created some problems with the supply of magazines back in Zimbabwe, but we are working to sort it out. In the next few months we should be back on schedule again and the magazine will be with you on a regular basis. - Editor Dear Editor The Nagbag and I appreciate the difficulties and frustrations you must be having with printing problems. It must be an editor’s nightmare trying to juggle costs, delays and yet trying to keep the content current! Of interest, and possibly importance, we were especially impressed with the paper and printing quality of the last issue. Friends have also commented on the more glossy and superior production. Best regards. Rex Taylor Kariba Thanks for the kind words of support. Yes, indeed, we are living in interesting times, but rest assured, we will do our very best to ensure that all our valued readers continue to receive their favourite magazine. - Editor BANKET WORM SELLERS - FAME AT LAST! The “African Fisherman Banket Worm Market” situated on the Kariba road is fast becoming ‘the’ place to stop and tenga fishing worms. Not only popular with local anglers, these enterprising young men are becoming famous further afield. The following pictures were submitted by Peter Winsor (ex-Zimbo) all the way from the U.S.A. The business cards belong to Charles Zulu ‘Marketing Chief’ and Marvelous Mabara ‘Chief Assistant’.
