of the couple ’ s culture , families , and traditions , and by learning multicultural competence and humility . Multicultural competence with Arab American clients must begin by amplifying Arab American voices in mental health research and especially by increasing the number of Arab American mental health professionals . Even now , the Arab American population has been significantly excluded from the research literature on mental health .
For Arab American couples , the accessibility and access of mental health services is a narrow window due to the sociocultural factors that restrain these couples from seeking help . As mental health professionals , let ’ s not let the lack of sexual health and education , the normalization of IPV and infidelity , and a culture of silence continue to leave many Arab American couples struggling alone , or with insufficient mental health resources .
