President-Elect : Deirdra Sanders – Burnett , PhD , LMHC
I am strategic , focused , forward-thinking , action-oriented , and results-driven , and I look forward to working collaboratively with AMHCA ’ s leaders , members , and stakeholders to advance AMHCA ’ s vision and mission and to continue to grow a strong and active organization .
My professional experience includes being a Clinical Mental Health Counselor , school counselor , teacher , and supervisor for mental health counselors , school counselors , and teachers . I have counseling experience working in various settings including private practice , public education , and alternative education settings .
The owner of Faith Counseling LLC , I am a Qualified Clinical Supervisor for registered Mental Health Counselor interns in Florida . I am also an adjunct instructor and School Counseling Practicum Supervisor at the University of South Florida , in its Department of Leadership , Policy and Lifelong Learning . In addition to being a Florida Supreme Court family mediator , I have worked for Florida ’ s Polk County Public Schools as a mental health counselor , an administrator , and an educator .
I plan to apply my extensive leadership experience with several professional mental health counseling and service organizations to my leadership of AMHCA . My goals for my term as president in 2023 – 2024 including developing a strategic plan with specific , measurable , attainable , realistic , and timely goals that capture the present trends and the projected needs of the mental health profession , AMHCA ’ s members , and our constituencies . I will work closely with the Finance Committee to present an explicit action plan with a balanced budget , and to identify resources that will support projected programs , events , and operations . To capture the voice of AMHCA ’ s members and stakeholders , I plan to conduct a Strengths , Opportunities , Aspirations , and Results ( SOAR ) analysis . Finally , I plan to conduct two progress reports and an end-of-theyear report to monitor progress towards meeting the goals and objectives outlined in the strategic plan and to help identify the best use of resources .
In addition to having won several awards and honors , I have numerous publications credits and given many presentations .

Before becoming a Clinical Mental Health Counselor , I worked in human resources and organizational development in the largest technology companies in the Pacific Northwest . Working at Sony , Microsoft , Expedia , Google , and Facebook in both a consulting and coaching capacity enabled me to understand the most important skill that I have taken into my counseling practice — discerned listening . Coaching the executives of those companies gave me the understanding and experience to ask the important questions about how to
