When something is loved universally, there is usually good
reason. South Africa taught me this lesson. As a travel writer
captivated by emerging destinations, being sent on this favourite
path well-trodden posed a new challenge; how to blaze my own
trail. What I wasn’t prepared for was the invigorating beauty and
diversity of South Africa and the refreshingly laid-back way of
life. This makes it easy to discover individuality in any crevice of
the country. From dramatic mountains and sparkling beaches
of the Cape Peninsula to lush vineyards and gourmet organic
food in the Western Cape Winelands to remarkably close safari
encounters with The Big 5 and innovative conservation practices
in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa’s wealth lies in its
natural splendour. To the unsuspecting visitor, South Africa easily
lures with her curvaceous silhouette, easy personality and sense
of adventure. But she can be so much more than a holiday fling.
Look her in the eye and find a place easy to call ‘home.’
