A NOTE FROM THE COMMANDANT
keep you posted about this in
due course.
Speaking of Camp, I know it was
poignant for many, as it was the
last camp under your previous
company structures. I know that
some of you had reservations
reservations about the changes,
but I hope you understood the
reasons why. We are now a few
months down the line and you
have all had your second
weekend camp by now as part of
a new company. I’ve got to say
that you have all risen to the
challenge, as I knew you would
and the feedback I have been
receiving from everyone is
extremely positive. I have no
doubt that you will now go from
strength to strength in your new
companies and look forward to
seeing the same continued
success and results in the future.
Well here we are again, a new
Newsletter and the start of a
brand new year, why do they
seem to just flash by? I can’t
believe that I have been the
Commandant for a year already,
as they say ‘time flies when
you’re having fun” and I have got
to say, it has been fun.
Our Battalion has had some
fantastic results at regional and
national levels over the past
year, with cadets winning
medals, trophies and acclaim
either as individuals or as part of
a team at activities such as
banner drill, first aid, swimming,
athletics, cross country and
shooting to name but a few.
Speaking of the future, 2014 is
going to be a very busy year and
here is just a taster for what’s to
come. We will be looking for 24
cadets to attend our first ever
Battlefield Tour in September
2014. We will also be looking for
cadets to attend a visit to
Canada in 2015; this will be part
of a newly formed partnership
with our cousins from Canada.
We are hosting them at our
Annual Camp in 2014 and they
are going to be hosting us the
following year. I hope that this
exchange will become a biannual event and that lots of
cadets will get the chance to go
to Canada over the coming
years.
Our Annual Camp was a great
success and I hope you all
enjoyed it as much as I did,
plans are well in hand for camp
in Altcar next year and we will
Unless your head has been
buried in the sand, you will also
know that there are some
national activities and events
that will have an impact on us in
2014. Things like the WW1
Centenary celebrations, the
Commonwealth Games, The
Queens Baton Relay and
National Armed Forces Day to
name but a few, but again I
know that you will all rise to the
challenge and that our Battalion
will be highly represented.
As in everything we do in the
c a de t s , t he se a ct i v i t i e s ,
successes, achievements and
opportunities don’t just happen
by chance, they involve a lot of
work and planning by our adult
staff. On your behalf I would like
to take this opportunity to say a
big THANK YOU to all of them
for making OUR Battalion the
success that it is and long may
we all continue ‘To Inspire to
Achieve’ together.
Our next issue of “The Achiever”
will be sent out to all of you
before Annual Camp so make
sure you sign up to the mailing
list in time. Don’t forget you can
tell us your stories and ideas by
emailing them over to AUO
Malarky by emailing him via
[email protected]
or by speaking with your
Detachment Commander.
I hope that you and your families
had a very Merry Christmas and
have a very Happy and
Prosperous New Year now that
we have entered 2014.
