Cdt Shona Chalmers from 12Platoon Dalkeith was shortlisted in the St
Andrews Young First Aider of the Year Awards (16 and under category)
back in November.
The awards which were held at the Grand Sheraton Hotel, have been
created to champion First Aid in Scotland and recognise those who are
leading the way in it's provision.
By identifying and celebrating First Aid role models the awards aim to raise
awareness that First Aid can be the difference between a life lost and a life
saved.
CDT Chalmers was on duty as a volunteer with St Andrews at a junior rugby
tournament. A boy was severely tackled and had a neck injury, Chalmers
was first on the scene and made the decision to hold him in a spinal position
to protect him. Her nomination was due to her quick thinking and ability to
remain calm under pressure.
We’d like to offer a massive well done to Cdt Chalmers for not only being
nominated for the award......
...but for also WINNING it!!
