49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick made waves for kneeling during the US national anthem to protest systematic oppression of black Americans. Since then he has given $ 25,000 to Appetite For Change, an urban farming and food-education non-profit in Minneapolis. Kaepernick has also pledged to give away a million dollars- $ 100,000 per month, to a variety of smaller organisations dedicated to helping oppressed communities. Some of these organisations don’ t have the national presence of, say, Planned Parenthood or the ACLU, but they’ re taking on the same problems at a smaller scale.
