provide tips for mental health. It ' s based in Barbados, but now also has a chapter in Jamaica where instances of suicide are very high.
You have been compared to Lauryn Hill, how does this make you feel? Naturally it ' s an honour as Lauryn Hill would have been one of the first artists I looked up to when I started doing music. She ' s a very introspective artist and that ' s what I would like to bring to my music- introspection.
You ' re known as an activist, what are some causes you are passionate about? I care about people ' s well-being in general, so that covers a range of causes and I would fight for all of them if I had the time. The universe has brought me to mental health and youth mentorship though. In the past I ' ve done work related to child soldiers and HIV / Aids.
You have your own style when it comes to fashion, where do you get your inspiration from? Honestly, fashion isn ' t something I ' m particularly preoccupied with. I don ' t intend to be fashionable, I intend to be honest and expressive. So sometimes that honesty is very simple and modest, and sometimes it ' s loud and colourful. I travel a lot and I ' m pretty androgynous, so whatever I wear tends to always be a fusion of styles from different cultures, always somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
Tell us one thing you always take on tour? Other than my medication? An expectant mind.
What ' s your motto or the advice you live by? My whole life is centred around discovering what it means to love. For me it ' s a cycle of accepting God / The Universe ' s love, sharing love and in so doing, allowing others to be receptive of God ' s love. I think it ' s the cure for everything!
How would you describe your music? " Honest " is the first word that comes to mind, then " uplifting ". It ' s all of me- a kid who grew up in church, in bands, orchestras, choirs, taught herself how to play different instruments, gay, welltravelled, introvert from the Caribbean, empath, poet- it sounds like all of that.
What is your favourite thing about Barbados? Hands down, the beach. I love that on any given day, I can see the ocean. It ' s a lovely blue and the sunsets are amazing! I love the tranquillity it has provided me on countless occasions.
What projects do you have coming up? I just released my self-produced, selfpenned project called " Dae 1 ", so I ' ll be busy pushing that project and bringing it to life in video and on stage.
