I got promoted to the specialist role after successfully going through the series of interviews. It was a 3-month temporary position but I was given an assurance that I would be offered the position on a full time basis at the end of the period. Regrettably, after three months, I was told I would not be offered the position on a permanent basis. So, I returned to my Technical Support position. Two weeks after returning to my previous position, a new job opening came up at the company. I was interested in this position as I had some previous experience in it. Besides, it came with better financial benefits than my current position. I decided to approach my boss about my interest in applying, and he gave me a go ahead to apply. He provided me with the contact details of the hiring manager for the said job opening - so that I could schedule an appointment with him to discuss the role. Thankfully, I met with the hiring manager and he gave me some insight into the role. Interestingly, after the meeting, I didn’t have as much interest in the job opening as I did previously but I applied anyways to give a good impression. A few days after I applied for the position, I was invited for an interview. I didn’t quite care about the outcome of the interview. My disposition was such that “If I got it great, and if I didn’t get it, that would be fine as well.” A week after the interview, I sat down with my boss in a meeting to discuss my performance. At the end of the meeting, my supervisor asked me “Fattah, what did you study in school?” I stated that I've a Bachelors degree in Business Information Systems. And he said “Ok.” He then continued, and said "a new position was coming up at the company - which isn’t gaining as much interest as it should." He later told me that he would send me the details of the position, and that if I was interested, I should apply. 16
