Silverstone Classic
Report 2010
To say that this year’s Silverstone Classic
was bigger and better than previous years
is an understatement. This was not just for
our club, but the whole event had grown
this year into a much bigger meeting in
terms of the racing, now 3 full days, the car
clubs on display and the trade village.
Our stand had also grown this year in
terms of size allocated to us and our location. We had a fantastic premium location
this year at the very heart of the event and
indeed the envy of many other clubs. In
addition we were also blessed with three
really good day’s weather wise - in fact
Saturday was just a bit too hot!
Our whole set up this year was much
more professional as we had our marquee,
generator and plenty of tables and chairs
for members to use. There was also a hot
water urn running over the weekend. Members paid £1.00 per day and could have as
much tea & coffee as they liked.
We also had a record number of
members attending, with 65 cars over the
weekend, so that is well over a third of the
membership, impressive for such a small
club. This enabled us to put on a fantastic
display of cars for the public and there was
always a real buzz about our stand.

Kevin Kivlochan brought along his fantastic
AC service van. This was set up along with
Colin Newbold’s Hawk Kirkham 289 all
jacked up with wheels off and “Dave” the
club mechanic in attendance working on
Colin’s car. This created a lot of attention
and indeed this along with the rest of our
display gained us runner up for the best
club stand award, won in the end by the
Mazda MX5 owners club.
The new club regalia was on show
for the first time and met with much approval resulting in numerous orders from
members. See the separate article in this
newsletter should you wish to order any for
yourself.
The Marquee enabled us to hold our
AGM in private. This meeting was well attended by members who were welcomed
by our Chairman John Cooke with a glass
of fizz. The AGM covered many topics,
however the main ones being the adoption of the club constitution and increase
in membership fees. There was then a
break for an hour before the BBQ was
served up. Colin Newbold & John Cooke,
ably assisted by their glamorous assistants Nicky, Sue and my own Julie, did us
proud again with a fantastic spread, aided
by many other helpers.
After the BBQ we held the awards
ceremony. Our thanks must go to Gerry
Hawkridge who provided seven new trophies this year.
On the Sunday we were again one of
the few clubs to be allocated track laps.
This year we had 30 cars on track + one
AC Van, just in case !!!!. We were in with
a group of Lamborghini’s and I can report
that T289R members mixed it up with
them quite a bit cutting through them and
showing them a clean pair of heels. As
ever everyone involved returned to the
club stand with a somewhat stupid grin on
their faces !!
The 2010 Silverstone Classic was a
great success for our club on all levels.
I’d like to thank all those that attended
over the weekend and also to those that
helped out before, during and after the
event. Without your help & support this
event just could not happen, so many
thanks from me. Plans are already being
formulated for 2011 to build on this year,
so put
